MAXIM by The Prodigy (aka Visual Artist MM) to Release NFT ‘Lepidopterror’ Collection

Lepidoptera are an order of insects that includes butterflies. For the “Lepidopterror Collection” by contemporary British artist MAXIM, also known as MM (Double M), beautiful butterflies are mixed with skulls and deadly weapons to be released as a curated collection by NFT via Crypto .com/NFT in conjunction with NFT’s innovative Snowcrash platform on Wednesday, July 27.

Well known for his exceptional paintings, sculptures and ceramics, Maxim often uses a mixture of sinister and beautiful imagery. This collection includes 888 still images of four categories of butterflies, in varying quantities. There are 50 king butterflies, 50 warrior butterflies and 50 worker butterflies. The remaining 738 butterflies are citizens. They all belong to the oldest family of butterflies, the Lepidoptera, and have their part to play in defending the clown wasps’ golden magic pollen.

Maxim’s musical experience in The Prodigy (the pioneering electronic music group that shattered perceptions of the genre for over two decades) helped inform his broader artistic practice. This is evidenced in pieces always based on a surreal world, inspired by the creator of special effects Ray Harryhausen and the artists HR Giger, MC Escher and Hieronymus Bosch. At the heart of his approach is a love and appreciation of freedom. “The one thing I’ve learned about art is that there really aren’t any mistakes in art, are there?” he shares.

These butterflies were first conceptualized by Maxim in 2009 after recalling a childhood memory of an ad that showed a young girl running through a cornfield, waving a net as she tried to catch a butterfly. elegant. He thought, “What if I cocked that butterfly?” The butterfly is considered a frail and gentle creature. He wanted to give her the ability and the strength to defend herself.

Thus was born the revolt of the butterflies. Maxim took this inspiration and produced a collection of artwork titled “Lepidopterror”. Working with Snowcrash and, he takes these coins into the metaverse and creates NFTs, which he sees as a natural progression for this collection.

Long ago, a child of one of the oldest butterfly families, the Lepidoptera, found a source of magical golden pollen. The child consumed some of the pollen and, in an instant, all his worries and ailments evaporated. Realizing the healing powers of the pollen, the child told this to his family, the leaders of the Lepidoptera, the Royals. They decided that the Golden Pollen needed to be protected from their enemies, the Clown Wasps, to ensure that enough pollen was always available to heal the sick.

As a result, some of the moths were trained to become warrior butterflies, to protect members of the royal family and their workers and citizens from vicious clown wasps. Warriors are highly respected, but that doesn’t mean Workers and Citizens have lesser roles to play. Worker butterflies actually collect golden pollen and bring it to the center of their home where it is safest.

Citizens are the largest part of the Lepidoptera community. They are either too old to work and fight, or too young to choose a path as a worker or a warrior. They help take care of the larvae and caterpillars when they are ready to enter their pupae to turn into butterflies. Butterflies all display a side of strength regardless of their situation.

Originally from Cambridgeshire, UK, Maxim has been a creative artist since 2002 after being inspired to create art to hang in his home. Since 2012, he has presented his works in mixed media in various exhibitions around the world. He is self-taught and has been known to use many different random objects in his work: spray paints, bullets, blades, and pills to name a few.

His artistic images have also been used on fine bone china tableware accented with 24 karat gold. He uses acrylic and ceramic paints as well as anything that comes to hand that will add texture to his work. Often his pieces are finished with resin which he says gives a certain beauty and precision to the images, keeping them locked and untouchable behind the resin.

The paintings are a journey through MM’s mind and have a surreal edge that takes you somewhere deep in his imagination. Some plays show rebellion and the rise of the underdogs and the weak. All of MM’s paintings contain signs of strength and positivity while giving things a “turn” and seeing them from different angles. Pomegranates carried by the breeze by a raft of red balloons; skull butterflies wielding samurai swords and armed cats are just a few of the surreal fantasy worlds created by MM.

In May 2021, MM collaborated with multimedia artist Dan Pearce on the powerful and poignant pandemic project Hope, which included the release of 50 limited-edition sculptures, an exclusive four-track MM EP as well as the release of a short film. of accompaniment. film, featuring MM, his new music and featuring Pearce’s son, to tell the story behind the couple’s sculpture.

Since 2012, MM has supported various charities and donated artwork to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research, BT ArtBox for ChildLine, Shelter, NHS Charities Together, Young Minds and Chain of Hope ( heart care for children around the world). MM continues to work tirelessly and is now planning exhibitions to take place in the last quarter of 2022.
