Laya Drops Visual for Reimagined Cover of Missy Elliott’s Hit “Sock It 2 Me”

Following the release of her critically acclaimed EP, Um, Hello earlier this year, LAYA returns with the sultry visual of “Sock It 2 Me” just in time for summer. The Staten Island R&B singer-songwriter’s DIY approach is front and center as a creator and producer, bringing her world to the fore and fully reflecting her sonic experimental essence.

In the video, LAYA takes on many shapes and faces as she sings a “late night creep” with her significant other. Dressed in a black corset and vintage bob cut, she serenades listeners with undeniable charisma and tremendous presence, lighting up the camera in the most seductive way possible.

Originally released exclusively through Amazon Original Songs and available through Warner Records, “Sock It 2 Me” is LAYA’s reimagined take on Missy Elliott’s hit record. An explosive and insidiously catchy cover of the original song, LAYA continues to bring its contemporary perspective to R&B.

Since its inception, LAYA has shown its ability to fuse ethereal soundscapes with nostalgia-infused musicality. She has a knack for making hooks that feel good, which has earned her critical acclaim for her past efforts.

“Sock It 2 Me” was Um, Hello EP by LAYA amassed 10 million global streams, 1.7 million views on YouTube channel and 3 million views on fan-generated videos on TikTok for “Crazy Down”. This visual follows the release of his latest music video for “On Sight”.

LAYA will hit the road this summer with Teyana Taylor in New York for “The Last Rose Motel” tour. She will also be supporting Alex Isley on his headlining Marigold Tour, presented by Femme It Forward.

LAYA’s limitless creativity was born from a desire to excel. The Staten Island-born artist has worked as a singer, songwriter, producer, creative director and visual artist, constantly changing form and acquiring skills because, to her, that’s what growing up looks like. His vibrant yet vulnerable approach to R&B and pop offers a unique perspective on life and love, fueled by a need for novelty.

His forthcoming EP release, Um Hello, showcases his approach so far, but his 2022 debut single, “Brag”, featuring Fivio Foreign, is a retrofuturistic victory lap – his slinky 90s indebted vocals resonate sweetly so that she flexes what she has accomplished so far. Which is a lot. Growing up around musical theater and the visual arts, LAYA’s love for performance began in childhood. But over time, her musical energies became focused and crystallized, leading her to the nostalgic, yet forward-looking sound that resonates with fans today.

Her 2020 breakout, “Sailor Moon,” showcased this visionary approach and aired her authorship. Along with writing the song, LAYA also shot, directed, and edited the visuals, in addition to doing her own hairstyles, makeup, and wardrobe, all skills that remain core to her work today. The tendency to constantly create has given him a head start, in terms of achieving his past, present and future ambitions. “Everything I’ve done so far, I’ve worked and achieved,” says LAYA. “It didn’t exist yesterday, but it exists today.” And clearly, tomorrow.
